In 1884, a son, JOHANN, was born in Limbach, the seventh child 
of JACOB SCHMIDT and KATHARINA KROEN. He went back to Germany 
as a young man and was known as HANS SCHMIDT. He was a tailor 
in Limbach, but trained to be a medical nurse in Germany. 
Later he was the caretaker of the Lutheran Church in Gerthe, 
near Bochum. He returned to visit his family in Czechoslovakia 
several times.

Hans married HELENE KAUL in 1923 and settled in Gerthe, near 
Bochum. They had five children, BURGHARD, SIEGFRIED DANIEL, 
ESTHER, HANS GOTTFRIED, and HELMUT. The oldest son, BURGHARD, 
died on the Russian front in 1943, during World War II. The
other four children are living today in Europe.
